As a high-school student interested in medicine, I have been looking for programs to apply to, so here’s a list of what I’ve found!

Stanford Medical Youth Science Program

The Stanford Medical Youth Science Program is a five-week online enrichment program focused on science and medicine that is open to low-income, underrepresented high school juniors who live in Northern and Central California. It is a tuition-free program that relies on donations to run! Every summer, the program invites 30 students from Northern Carolina to participate in it for five weeks, and the applications have begun already!

U-Penn Biomedical Research Academy

The Biomedical Research Academy introduces the experimental basis of cellular, molecular, and genetic aspects of biology, focusing on relevance to diseases. Fusing daily lectures, faculty research talks, laboratory experiments, and small group investigations into current research topics, students gain insight into the core of biomedical research. The program lasts for three weeks and is eligible for students from grades 9-11! It costs $5,049, but select students from Philadelphia could apply for financial aid and attend it free of charge! Applications for the summer of 2022 have begun already, so you should start thinking now!

AAMS Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Summer Internship

Hey, the acronym for this program is AAMS! What a coincidence 🙂

The Basic – Intermediate Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Internship (BI CSSSI) is a two-week highly interactive internship for High School and Pre-Med students to take the first steps towards mastering complex cardiothoracic surgery. This program is very hands-on and practices different skills required for surgery, such as surgical knot tying, cardiothroacic dissection, and valve replacements! The program costs around $6000 and runs three times through the summer! Applications have begun now, so if you’re interested, start thinking now!

Stanford Clinical Science, Technology and Medicine Summer Internships 2022

Another program hosted by Stanford!

Stanford’s two-week medical internships for high school students and pre-med undergraduate students seeking careers in clinical medicine, STEM, biomedical research, and the application of technology in medicine. The program includes lectures, lab work, capstone projects, and much more! Once you have completed this program, you would be eligible to apply for the Stanford Advanced Clinical Experience Internship, which is a one-week program focused on advanced clinical skills, specifically airway management techniques! Applications have begun now as well, so you better get ready to begin applying!
